Both Light And Shadow Are The Dance Of Love (Rumi)
Dance Therapy is a creative arts therapy, which uses movement and dance to promote physical, emotional psychological, social and spiritual healing in a person. Dance therapy improves the overall health and wellness of an individual by engaging them in dance and movement. All movement by the individual is appreciated no matter how small. Dance therapists use a system of movement observation and analysis, as movement is seen as a reflection of the way an individual is thinking and feeling.
Dance therapy can be practised with children, adults and elders. I have a post graduate diploma in dance movement psychotherapy from Roehampton University, London UK (2005), where I specialised in body image and culture. I have worked with children with learning disabilities, families and adults with mental and emotional distress in Oxfordshire,UK. There are many different ways a dance therapist can practise, depending upon their professional experience, own personal life experience and philosophy on life.
I am influenced and informed by Sufism, Shamanic healing, Professor Miranda Tuffnell ‘s somatic wellbeing, Non Violent Communication, Martin Luther King’s non violent conflict reconciliation, Professor Mooli Lahad and my own personal experience of healing from post traumatic stress disorder.
My work focuses on healing dance, facilitating and empowering clients to find solutions to their problems through dance, so that they can live fully and joyfully in life. I allow clients to find ways to feel safe enough to gently and sensitively heal trauma. I help clients experience the healing power of unconditional love, connect clients more deeply to their bodies by helping them to listen to the wisdom of their bodies and by facilitating clients to really experience the full pleasure that their bodies can give them through experiencing greater body sensitivity and sensuality. My intention is to deeply respect the dignity of the individuals with whom I work with. I facilitate workshops and classes in a safe, supportive, non judgemental and compassionate atmosphere.
