Artistic education is the use of dance, movement and creativity to educate and inform about issues in an engaging, inspiring interesting and experiential way, so that participants gain a greater understanding,awareness and sensitivity to the issue or topic in discussion. Artisitc education can be used to raise awareness in any topic such as the environment, social and cultural cohesion, diversity, human rights, animal rights, health and wellbeing.
It gives individuals the chance to learn creatively and through experiential exercises in an interesting and stimulating way. Each participant can contribute their ideas and thoughts allowing the opening of dialogous which encourages new perceptions and a hightened awareness of the issue . All participants are fully engaged in the issues being discussed, which can bring positive,long lasting change for the good of all.
Artistic education can be used with children and adults alike, it is fun, stimulating, engaging and fosters the self worth of the individuals participating.
I have over ten years of working as an artisitic educator in schools in Oxfordshire,UK, working for Oxfordshire out of hours education, in family centres in Oxford and as the artistic educator trustee for East Oxford Carnival, one of the largest intercultural events in the South East of the UK.
